Election by Jesus and Paul

We read about election in some of Paul’s writings, as well as in Peter’s epistles. But what about Jesus? Did he say anything about the subject? Listen in as Brother Matt continues to explore more and more passages that deal with this often misunderstood doctrine.

God’s Sovereignty in Salvation

Is God sovereign in the salvation of sinners? Consider: man is dead in sin and cannot repent, believe, or love God until after he is born again; God will never be disappointed in the accomplishment of His will; God’s love is everlasting, not dependent upon man’s response, and nothing can separate us from His love; God would be unjust to demand the penalty of sin at the hands of His Son and then a second time at the hands of an unrepentant sinner in the lake of fire; if God’s sovereignty is limited by man’s will, then man exercises more power over eternity than God does; man would deserve some of the glory if man had to do his part, but all the glory belongs to God.

And We Know…

Two verses. At least one is one of our favorites. They are as well-loved as they are misunderstood. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:28-29

Hope and Peace

Where there is Hope, there is Peace. “For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us… For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?” Romans 8, verses 18 and 24.

The Spirit of Adoption

The Spirit of adoption, which leads to hope. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” Romans 8:15-17

What I Hate, That I Do

In Romans Chapter 7, Paul describes the struggle that exists within (and only within) the heart of a child of God. Do you find yourself struggling like Paul? Even though you know to do right, you tend to do wrong? What you desire to do, you do the very opposite? Thankfully, God’s word reveals the source of deliverance we need: “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

The Sons of God

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…” We cannot fully comprehend (not in this life) what it truly means to be “called the sons of God”, but what joy and peace it brings to meditate on such a glorious thought.

What Manner of Love

1John Chapter 3 begins with “Behold…” See, pay attention, look at, observe, inspect, examine; and then ascertain what should be done in light of what you have seen. “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…”
